How your claim will be investigated
Once you file your personal injury claim with the insurance company, they will assign a claims adjuster who will conduct an independent investigation into your claim.
The insurance company will try to determine who was at fault for the accident, and more specifically whether you bear any responsibility for your injuries (this is called contributory negligence or comparative negligence). The adjuster will also review police reports and other investigatory documents pertaining to the case.

The adjuster might want to talk to any potential witnesses or examine the scene of the accident to put together an accurate picture of what happened.
